It began with a complaint from a disgruntled employee.  An employee of Infosys, a billion-dollar East Indian IT company, blew the whistle on the company’s misuse of B-1 visitor’s visas, leading to an audit of the company’s I-9 files by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Various companies have paid one million dollars or more in fines because of immigration violations.  The recent Infosys $34 million settlement is the largest settlement yet, and serves as a warning to potential employers to be certain that they are using visa properly, and are keeping accurate and updated records and files.

As the Year 2014 arrived, the results of numerous researches are surfacing. We conducted our own research and then compared to other international sources; this is the third consecutive year that we are seeing the same concern where investing in global human capital competency is the trending need across the globe. Our research shown that small, medium and large organizations that are conducting business across borders are dramatically vocal about their inabilities in coping up with the demand of a global market. The readiness of global competency among employees and leaders do not add up. There is a big deficiency gap of skills and competency in order to successfully achieve their global business goals. The Society of Human Resources Management also acknowledged similar concern among global organizations.
